An Overview of Question Answering at Tokyo Institute of Technology

چکیده
In this paper1, we give an overview of the data-driven and non-linguistic approach to open-domain factoid question answering (QA) that has been developed over the past 4 years at Tokyo Institute of Technology and which culminated this year in our participation in three international evaluations of QA technology at TREC (for English), CLEF (for Spanish and French) and NTCIR (for Japanese). In TREC2005 we placed 11th out of a total of 30 participants in the factoid QA task and in TREC2006 we came 9th out of 27 participants with an accuracy of 25.1%. While our performance in the official CLEF QA tracks was poor due to a large number of unsupported answers, the performance on an informal “real-time” Spanish QA exercise was one of the best. At the time of writing no results have yet been released for Japanese.

TREC 2005 Question Answering Experiments at Tokyo Institute of Technology
In this paper we describe Tokyo Institute of Technology’s submission to the TAC2008 question answering (QA) track. Keeping the same theoretical QA model as for the TREC2007 track, developed for factoid QA, we investigated the effects of retrieving blog data versus web data for rigid list questions. For squishy list questions we relied on sentence retrieval, similar to how we approached “other” ...
متن کاملCLEF2006 Question Answering Experiments at Tokyo Institute of Technology
In this paper we present the experiments performed at Tokyo Institute of Technology for the CLEF2006 Multiple Language Question Answering (QA@CLEF) track. Our approach to question answering centres on a non-linguistic, data-driven, statistical classification model that uses the redundancy of the web to find correct answers. Using this approach a system can be trained in a matter of days to perf...
متن کاملCLEF2007 Question Answering Experiments at Tokyo Institute of Technology
In this paper we describe the experiments carried out at Tokyo Institute of Technology for the CLEF 2007 QAst (Question Answering in speech transcripts) pilot task, as well as our results from the official evaluation. We apply a non-linguistic, data-driven approach to Question Answering (QA), based a noisy channel model. The system we use for the QAst evaluation comprises an Information Retriev...

In this paper we discuss our results from the 2006 NTCIR-6 CLQA task, subtasks 2a and 2b. We describe our language independent, data-driven approach to Japanese language question answering and our new document retrieval and answer projection method which resulted in a small performance gain in comparison to earlier approaches. Using this method, we achieve a formal run score of 0.17 for the top...
متن کاملON A LOSSY IMAGE COMPRESSION/RECONSTRUCTION METHOD BASED ON FUZZY RELATIONAL EQUATIONS
The pioneer work of image compression/reconstruction based onfuzzy relational equations (ICF) and the related works are introduced. TheICF regards an original image as a fuzzy relation by embedding the brightnesslevel into [0,1]. The compression/reconstruction of ICF correspond to thecomposition/solving inverse problem formulated on fuzzy relational equations.Optimizations of ICF can be consequ...
